How to Use a Ringtone Website
Ringtone websites let you download audio files directly from their site. In most cases, the audio files are already prepared as ringtone files for you so that all you have to do is put the ringtone on your phone to use it.
However, not all phones make the transfer process easy. In fact, only Android devices, like phones from Samsung, Google, etc., can download ringtones directly to the device.
For iPhone, iPad, and iPod touch devices, you have to first download the ringtone to your computer and then transfer it from your computer to your phone. You can do that with iTunes.
To download ringtones to an Android or BlackBerry device, pick the MP3 option on the ringtone website. If you're going to use the ringtone on an iOS device, download the M4R version of the ringtone.
If the ringtone website provides a ringtone in an audio format that your phone doesn't recognize as a ringtone file, your phone might store it as a song instead of a ringtone. You can use a free audio converter program like FileZigZag to save the ringtone in a format usable on your phone.
Some of these audio file downloads will start playing in your browser automatically and won't prompt you to download the ringtone to your computer. If that happens, right-click the file and choose to save it so that you can pick where it should download to on your computer.
How to Change Your Ringtone
Downloading free ringtones is just one step; to actually use the ringtones on your phone, you have to change your ringtone settings so that your device knows which audio file to use as the ringtone.
You can change your Android ringtone or pick a different iPhone ringtone from the Ringtone area of your phone's settings.
Not every ringtone website is legal, and even the legal ones sometimes have copyrighted music. If you see a ringtone from a modern, popular song, it's more than likely copyrighted and illegal to download.

Phonezoo is another free ringtone website that lets you download and share ringtones for your mobile devices. Some of the ringtones you can download are in the MP3 format while others may be saved as M4A files.

All of the ringtones can be previewed before you download or share them.
This Phonezoo.com URL used to belong to a different ringtone website that has since been shut down. What you see here is a website with the same name and similar function (ringtone downloads), but it's not the same website it used to be.
With the iPhone ringtone maker apps provided below, you will be able to create a custom ringtone from your existing music library. You can even download pre-made ringtones from the Web and add them to your iPhone without using iTunes. Cool, right? Just keep reading, I will show you how to do so.
This article includes two parts:
- GarageBand: This app can create and add ringtones to your iPhone without using iTunes.
- Ringtone Apps on the App Store: These apps are great for making custom ringtones or download pre-made ringtones. But you’ll need to use iTunes.
1. GarageBand – Free Ringtone Maker for iPhone
GarageBand is actually a line of digital audio workstations for iOS that allows users to create music or podcasts. It’s included here because it’s the only app that can export audio files as ringtones directly to your iPhone.
Other ringtone apps on the App Store? Well, none of them can do that due to Apple’s restrictions. You will eventually need to use iTunes to sync ringtones from these apps to your iPhone.
Note: GarageBand also allows you to make iPhone ringtones from audio files stored in your cloud storage services or any file manager app that is supported by the Files app. But first, let’s create a ringtone from your music library. Once you’ve mastered it, you can repeat the process with files from other sources.
Before we begin, make sure you already have songs or audio files that you’d like to make a ringtone from in your iTunes library. Now launch GarageBand and follow the steps below
1) Get started with GarageBand
Launch GarageBand, tap Recents, then tap the Plus button on the top-right corner.
You’ll be asked to pick a virtual instrument, or one of GarageBand’s other sources. Choose Audio Recorder, and tap Voice.
Tap on the Tracks icon to bring up the Tracks view. Then, tap on the Metronome icon to disable it. Look at the screenshot below to identify them. Disabling Metronome will prevent count-in sounds from occurring during playback.
2) Import your tracks
By default, the timeline has 8 bars (16 seconds) in length. You can change the total duration by tapping the small + button on the ruler. Then select “Section A” and turn on the “Automatic” option. This will allow you to import the whole song.
Now tap on the Loop-shaped icon the upper-right corner to select and import the song or mp3 file.
If you want to use songs in your music library, select the “Music” tab. There’s also the “Audio Files” tab for selecting audio files from other apps but I’ll show you how to use it later. Now let’s stick with music in your library.
Navigate to the song, tap and hold on it. The file selection screen will dismiss and you can drop the song into GarageBand’s timeline.
3) Trim the music track
To clip music track, adjust the slider on both sides to crop the portion of the song you want to keep.
Free Ringtones For Iphone 6s
TIP: You can pinch the screen to zoom into or out of the timeline, making it easier to trim the song.
Ringtones have a maximum duration of 30 seconds, so make sure the music track prolong up to 15 bars in the timeline. Finally, drag the finished portion to the beginning of the track.
Tap the Play icon at the top bar to preview the track. When you’re satisfied with the editing, tap on the arrow-down icon on the top left corner, then choose My Songs. This will save the current track.
4) Export your ringtone
Find your song in the Recents tray. Tap, hold and release it to reveal contextual menu options. Then, tap “Share”.
The app will show you three format options to share the song. Tap “Ringtone” to create a ringtone from it. Name the ringtone whatever you want then tap “Export”. After the process finish, it will inform “Ringtone Export Successful”.
Now you can go to the Settings app, navigate to Sounds & Haptics > Ringtone. Your exported ringtone should appear at the top of the list for you to select.
5) Delete exported ringtones
If you don’t want to keep the newly created ringtones, you can delete them from the GarageBand app. Select Share again, tap on Ringtone. This time, rather than tapping the Export button, tap on “Your Ringtones”. You’ll find all the custom ringtones you have exported from GarageBand, now swipe to delete the ones you want.
That’s how you can create a custom ringtone from your music library. As I mentioned earlier, the latest version of GarageBand also lets you import audio files from other apps or cloud storage services through the Files app. To do that, instead of selecting the “Music” tab in step 2, you select the “Audio Files” tab and tap on “Browse items from the Files app”.
So now you can also browse music files in your Google Drive, iCloud, Dropbox,… You can even use apps like Documents to download music or pre-made ringtones from the Internet and import them to Garageband. Here’s how.
First, install Documents by Readle (free) and launch it. Then open the built-in web browser by tapping the compass icon in the bottom-right corner.
Now access the website that you wish to download ringtones from using the browser. You can search on Google for “download free ringtones for iPhone”. There are plenty of sites offering free ringtones on the Internet and you can try them out one by one.
Once you’ve found the ringtone you like, just tap on the download button, Documents is capable of saving audio files from the Internet, so it will start downloading the file for you. Now you can browse the downloaded audio file in Documents via the Files app and import it to GarageBand.
2. Top ringtone apps on the App Store
As of now, the ability to export ringtones could only be achieved by using GarageBand. Ringtone apps on the App Store allow you to download pre-made ringtones, or create custom ringtones but they require iTunes to sync tones with your iPhone eventually.
If these apps have an option to share tones with cloud services or send files to other apps like Documents, you would be able to make use of GarageBand. But I’ve sifted through so many apps and couldn’t find one that supports these features.
If you are willing to use iTunes, here are the ringtones apps that are worthy of consideration.
#1 ZEDGE Ringtones
ZEDGE Ringtones is a place to browse and download thousands of ready ringtones for free. You can find sound effects and ringtones from your favorite games and shows, like Barney Stinson’s ringtone from How I Met Your Mother.
#2 Ringtones for iPhone
Ringtones for iPhone provides three options to add new ringtones to your iPhone. You can trim existing songs in your music library using the app’s editor. Want cool pre-made ringtones? This app has got you covered with tons of great tones. You can also choose to record your voice or nature sounds and then use this app to make an iPhone ringtone as well.
#3 Ringtones for Me
Ringtones for Me offer a wide selection of ringtones, text tones, voicemail tones, and alerts. It offers the same features as Ringtones for iPhone but has many other categories to choose from.
#4 Ringtone Designer 2.0
Ringtone Designer 2.0 is dedicated to helping you create custom ringtones, text tones and alerts from sounds in your music library. You can easily adjust the length of the portion you want to keep, then apply some fade in or fade out effects, and you’re good to go.
How to add ringtones from these apps to your iPhone using iTunes
1) Save ringtones using one of the apps above. In this example, I use ZEDGE Ringtones.
2) Connect your iPhone to your computer and open iTunes.
3) Select your iPhone in the upper left part of iTunes, then select File Sharing in the sidebar. Now select your app (ZEDGE Ringtones in my case) from the list. All your saved ringtone files will show up in the Documents section.
4) Drag your ringtones to your desktop.
5) Select Tones under “On My Device”. Then click and drag your saved ringtones on the desktop back into iTunes.
6) Click Sync. Wait for iTunes to sync the ringtones. When it finishes, hit Done.
7) Your ringtones are ready to use.
That’s it! I’ve shown you the best apps to make custom ringtones or download pre-made ones for your iPhone. Hopefully, you liked the post ? Do you know other apps for ringtone lovers? Feel free to let us know by leaving a comment down below.
